Trails: Mt. Tecumseh Trail, Sosman Trail
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Sunday, September 14, 2014
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Plenty of room in the ski area parking lot. Used Sandwich Notch Road which has many stretches in poor condition with dips, exposed stone, washed out slopes, ditches, and some soft dirt. Would recommend that only high clearance vehicles use this road. I saw only one other vehicle driving the road.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail
Recommended Equipment

Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: The first and third crossings were easy due to low water levels. The second crossing had no water. I have never seen a dry river bed at the second crossing.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Trails in great condition. Lots of stone stairs and stone lined water diversion ditches will keep the trail in good condition for a long time. No obstructions on the trail.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Plenty of dogs enjoying Mt Tecumseh today
Bugs

Comments
Comments: The Mt Tecumseh and Sosman Trails up Mt Tecumseh have good footing and moderate grades. This makes the route excellent for a first time seeker of a four thousand foot peak.
Lots of hikers on these trails today.
There were two small American flags at the summit cairn.
I also went out to the east outlook via an unsigned well beaten trail just below the summit just off the Sosman Trail.
The Mt Tecumseh and Sosman Trails can be used for a loop trip over the summit of Mt Tecumseh. Take care not to take the Mt Tecumseh Trail to the west (unless that is your intent).
