Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: The significant crossings were on Raymond Path, and were all rock hops today. But the rocks could be slippery on some
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: There is no sign for Raymond Path where it intersects Tuckerman Ravine; I took it since it fit the map, looked well traveled and had recent blue blazes, but knowing there are ski trails made it a bit uncertain until it split off from the Fire Rd where there are signs. Raymond had occasional muddy sections and some very slippery rocks, but it is mostly a nice trail well cared for by the trail maintainer. It is well brushed and painted and all the water bars are open. The other trails were August fine.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Good day for Pepper. I had expected mostly dry trails and lots of sun, mollified by the cool temps for the climb above treeline and lots of cooling stops. But we climbed into the clouds and for much of the hike we were in them, so he stayed cool. He also found a couple in trail flows on Boott Spur for drinking and almost dipping, and springs on the Lawn Cutoff and Westside big enough for the little guy to sip n dip in. It felt sooo good. Raymond Path had plenty of streams. We saw two other dogs today, one on Tuckerman Ravine and one on Boott Spur, both doing fine. My suggestion is bring plenty of water, and if the sun is out plan on cooling stops. The direct sun is still warm on dark furred dogs, and little dogs especially are close to rocks radiating heat. Tuckerman and Crawford had plenty of people, but the other trails had none or very few, so Pepper mostly had lots of freedom.
Bugs
Bugs: A couple biters on our Fire Rd wanderings were a minor nuisance.

Comments
Comments: This was a wonderful hike, a perfect match of Pepper, open trails and summits often in but sometimes out of clouds, vistas with undercast, comfy temps & light winds, and a day off from work. I told Pepper the only way it could have been better was out of our control. It was a zoo on Washington of course, but the noise from construction equipment was unexpected. We chatted with some very nice people too. Wandering around the Fire Rd, visiting the Harvard Cabin, checking out a trail with a wooden sign but no name, etc. was interesting. Raymond Path was a nice surprise. Thanks Pepper for a great day.
