Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Most bridged w/ either the 3x8x8' tamarack AMC flies in for bog bridges or local spruce. 1 or 2 brooks have stepstones. 3-log bridge over brook at uphill end of easy grades has been moved and lost 3rd log. Replacement on same site should include cabling both ends or longer sills weighted with rock or higher abutments or... Most of the 70 bog bridges made of lumber northwest of the junction with Round-the-Lake trail will need replacement in about 3 years.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: From 3-log bridge uphill, trail climbs about 400' in 0.3 mile. It is severely eroded with all drains lost and many large rocks in deep gully. A sustainable trail on this route means many steps and waterbars or a few long zigzags on easy grades. In either case a crew of Trailwrights or the AMC pro crew is needed, for who else has the skill and tools to build trail or set such large rock on such a steep slope?
