| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Had the honor of speaking with one of the forest service workers, thanked him for the clean lots (here and other trails) and nice outhouses, etc. But it seems people are taking advantage of the trash/recycling receptacle by putting household stuff, etc. I know no one here would do such a thing, but a word to others... |
| Surface Conditions: |
Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable |
| Recommended Equipment: |
| Water Crossing Notes: |
Some minor rock hops at the very beginning. |
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Excellent, but here's a funny one. There is only one blow down, and it's the tree next to the shelter spur, the one with at least three trail signs on it! |
| Dog-Related Notes: |
Saw a few, they looked happy. Keep in mind that there is no sure water higher up, and plan accordingly! |
| Bugs: |
stiff, but nice, breeze kept them away 99.9%. |
| Lost and Found: |
My first lost report - my cheap (but well-loved) trac phone is probably still sitting on the stones that are the remnants of that summit hotel. Checking the time, thought I put it back in my pack, but discovered 45 minutes later it was not there! |

Never was so much beauty acquired at such great a price! These falls are a destination in their own right! In fact, we met a couple who had done Moosilauke the day before from the other side, but went as far as the shelter just to enjoy the cascades and the view from the shelter.
But for short people with short strides, the combination of steepness and rocks was very tiring. Next time, I'll save a beautiful challenge like this for when I don't have to drive two hours home afterward! |
