When I finished Chemins des Dames I sat there on Airline trying to decide what to do next. Here I met a hiker was descending after giving up his quest for Adams because of the fierce wind. I pressed on after a pair of strong lads came up Airline. They turned to go to the hut but I pressed on and I met four people coming down from Adams and there were half a dozen on top! Isreal Ridge from the top of Adams follows Great Gulf around Sam Adams and I turned onto Gray Knob. Gray Knob descends less steeply and it appears it doesn't get much use and has a softer footbed. I went out and back from Gray Knob to Crag Camp, I filled up my water bottles at the springs. Hincks is more enjoyable than Spur and I noticed birch tree logs cut to stove length and stacked along side of the trail. Followed Randolph Path all the way throughly enjoying the less traveled route. Walked back on rail bed, only better than walking on Rte 2. Trails all in terrfic condition. |
