Parking/Access Road Notes: Modest sized parking at Castle in good condition.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Numerous crossings on Israel Ridge and Castle Raveine; all rock hops but a few had slippery rocks which made poles advantageous.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: On the whole the trails were in good condition. We took out some blowdowns and debris on both Castle Ravine and Israel Ridge and trimmed some more to make them easy; some stepovers remain on Israel Ridge.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Pepper had fun with lots of sip n dips on Castle Ravine and low on Israel Ridge. I would not consider these prime dog trails due to the very sharp crystalline rocks, the lack of water up high and the prolonged exposure to the strong sun. Today there were lots of clouds and when there wasn't for a stretch on Cornice we let him use the shade of some vegetation to cool off several times. I carried water for him, and he loved the spring on Edmands Cutoff.
Bugs
Bugs: Some bugs but nothing problematic. The breeze on several stops may have kept them away, but we stopped a lot above tree line and they just weren't an issue at any of them.

Comments
Comments: Castle Ravine has many stream crossings, then sometimes loose talus, but it is a fun trail. Roof Rock harbored a fair chunk of ice. Edmands Cutoff has the spring and some unique views but is lightly used. The snowfield on 6 Husbands is still a major presence but it's easy to get up. Cornice was interesting; obviously lightly used but always open with unique views. We thought we wouldn't see anyone on it but ran into a photographer. Israel Ridge was not as slippery as the last time we were on it; it was a nice descent with water for Pepper. It had lots of debris and blowdowns, but we got a fair chunk of them; but not all.

We didn't see a lot of hikers except in Edmunds Col and around Jefferson's summit, but it was fun talking with them. It was a splendid day out with little wind, and the wind we had was refreshing. It was fun getting out on trails that I only had been on once before, and Pepper and Erica were redlining. The views were great and the hiking never demanding. It was another fantastic hike on wonderful trails with great companions. I am so lucky.
