| Water Crossing Notes: |
LWT all have bridges. There are 9 river crossings on FBT. Most were generally very easy. The 6th (Redrock Brook) and 8th (Twin Brook) were a little more difficult. A step or two on submerged rock or somewhat of a leap to dry rocks was necessary. There were numerous small brook crossings as well that are non issues. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
LWT no issues. FBT had many, many blowdowns. Most were old, easy step overs that were on or close to the ground. There were a few easy duck unders in the 1/2 mile or so approaching 13 Falls area. Wilderness area so only trail I saw a few white blazes on was Garfield Ridge. |
|
| Dog-Related Notes: |
There is an awkward ledge scramble and a steep, wet rocky area on Garfield Ridge Trail that could be a problem. Otherwise these trails are fine for dogs with plenty of water sources along the way. |
|
| Bugs: |
Virtually no bugs anywhere today. Saw absolutely nothing all the way to summit, even in river and pond areas. Later in day there were some random mosquitos around but I never got bit and used no repellent. Couldn't believe it. |

| Comments: |
All trails in generally good shape. Up to 13 Falls Tentsite trails are mostly dry with a few occasional muddy sections that were easy to avoid. After 13 Falls the rocky/muddy areas become more frequent, especially after the sharp left turn at the last river crossing. There was a 1/4 mile section or so just before Garfield Ridge where the trail follows/becomes a small brook and is slightly confusing to follow. Garfield Ridge trail had a slick ledge scramble shortly after leaving FBT and lengthy scramble up steep, wet rocks about 1/4 mile before junction with Garfield Trail. Scenic route to get to Garfield but was glad to have great views (all my prior visits were in fog, snow and clouds). There are surprisingly few views on FBT. Thought it would be more like Lincoln Brook. Far less interesting side. |
