Hikes don't get any better than this one. With clear blue skies and warm sun overhead, we didn't mind the extra care it took to avoid the mud and running water on the trail, not always possible. The rocks were wet and sometimes slippery. Care is advised, especially on the upper steep sections of Wildcat Ridge, and waterproof boots with good traction recommended.
We detoured to the Carter Notch hut on our return and it did not disappoint. We spent over an hour on this stop, reading, fly fishing for Brookies (caught/released 4), and eating lunch by the pristine water. We also met the caretaker, who, it turns out, was the same person we had come across on our hike the previous day to Wildcat D. While we talked, a hummingbird buzzed in, stopped at eye level to see what we were up to, hovering for a bit before buzzing away. Amazing moment! We were tempted to stay the night but had a campsite already waiting. We'll be back! |
