| Comments: |
19 Mile Brook has the usual wet/muddy areas, and a very small amount of snow/ice getting closer to the junction with the Wildcat Ridge Trail. Carter-Moriah from the hut to the summit of Carter Dome mostly ice free, except for the last one to two tenths from the summit. All ice can be easily avoided or stepped around. The summit of Carter Dome was bare, as was Mt. Hight. Trail between CDome and junction of Carter Dome Trail/Carter-Moriah Trail is mostly ice and stable monorail. Traction could be used if a little extra confidence is desired or if you're traveling fast and don't want to tiptoe around and over the ice. We didn't use traction and neither did the other two parties that we meet. Up and over Mt. Hight and continuing on to Zeta Pass, there were small patches of ice here and there, easily avoided. Carter-Dome Trail just about ice free, maybe just the first tenth or so descending from Zeta Pass, some water flowing on trail in the upper sections. In the cloud on the Dome, but didn't prevent me from having a great day out with my son. |
