Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: no crossings of note on this trail but much running water on trail and several step over brooks..Gibbs Fall worth the side trip
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: several fresh blowdowns just above the Falls including one potentially hazardous birch widow maker..From above Mizpah cutoff I basically cut my way through numerous blowdowns to stay on trail..Much winter trail work is evident and much still needs to be done. Just below the first outlook the trail basically disappears into a maze of broken trees..I opted at that point to follow the winter route which bee lined to the summit..
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: saw none but easy dog trail
Bugs
Bugs: huh??
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: picked up 5 used handwarmers that someone lost along the way

Comments
Comments: Driving through Notch I decided on Pierce/Eisenhower as that was where the sun was...mono rail started at around 2500 feet..mostly solid..barebooted to Mizpah cut off. 3-5 feet of snow from there up..no monorail..solid surface which made for pretty easy going. Spent much time on a few nasty blowdown patches..trail is now pretty open with a couple of brushy spots and 2 or 3 large blowdowns that will need a bigger saw to the first outlook. At that point, presented with a maze infront of me and black clouds and thunder to the west I followed one of the many bee line routes to the summit and dropped back down..Snow was solid today but there were some amazing 5 foot deep tree wells I skirted around..SNOWSHOES NEEDED. As I headed down I met up with a nice couple who were nervously eyeing the weather with a bit of snowshoe envy evident as well..they went to the view and then helped out swamping out brush and blowdowns with me..rained on us and the temp dropped 20 degrees but the thunder never got closer..poured at the parking lot.... Also met a very determined young lady in sandals, shorts, day pack w/o raingear//Folks at the Center assured her she could make the hut and she was determined to despite my best efforts to disuade..you would think the rain jacket and snowshoes would have sent a message..Good day out though time for a new saw I think....
