| Comments: |
Spotty snow and ice on switchbacks. Coverage begins in earnest just below Zeta Pass. Still four feet or more in places on the ridge, judging by some of the postholes. Cooler temps in the morning provided stable enough conditions for me to walk atop narrow monorail. Nice views from Mt Hight with undercasts. Saw another bear(s) today. Less than 5 minutes from trailhead on return, witnessed cub in distress-stranded on rock having difficulty crossing rapids on 19 mile brook. Viewed very large mother on south side and believe I heard distress calls of another cub further downstream. Continued to trailhead and hopeful that rescue operations went well. Brook was very intimidating in that area. |
