Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: The Sawyer River Road was open - kinda. It was un-gated in the AM so I drove to the trailhead lot. On the way out the gate was closed! But the chain was not locked. So is it opened or not? Made me a little nervous before I determined the chain was wrapped but not locked.

Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: The one river crossing was rock-hoppable with care. Water levels rising.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: There were 4 blowdowns along the way that were easy duck-unders.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Jack and Andy enjoyed the morning. Several areas of clear trail to increase the opportunities for new smells. After a few recent long hikes they enjoyed the ease of this one. Not to mention the mud!

Comments
Comments: The first mile of Signal Ridge trail had mostly a mix of slush and bare spots with mud. Then we went through about a 1/2 mile of clear and relatively dry trail. Shortly after the Notch junction the trail was snow covered again and slowly increased in depth until there as a 2-2.5 foot pack. The monorail went from fairly unstable to moderately stable. Very narrow over the entire trail however. Wore spikes the entire day as the snowshoes didn't seem like the best option given the narrowness of the rail. They got a free ride for the first time this year. The warm day soften everything up quickly as well and on the descent and the monorail completely collapsed. Postholed deep stepping right and the monorail fell apart if I stepped left. It was tough going. Passed two hikers who turned around 2/3 of the way up because of the postholing. As well as being completely unprepared. Loved the blue jeans!. Because this trail faces the south I expect it will clear quickly if we can get a few warm days with some sun.
