| | Date of Hike: | Saturday, May 1, 2010 | | | | | Parking/Access Road Notes: | | | | | | Surface Conditions: | Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Snow - Unpacked Powder, Wet/Slippery Rock, Snow - Wet/Sticky, Snow/Ice - Monorail (Unstable), Slush, Snow - Spring Snow | | | | | Recommended Equipment: | Snowshoes, Light Traction | | | | | Water Crossing Notes: | No problems | | | | | Trail Maintenance Notes: | Lots of blowdowns on the Hancock Notch Trail. I spent about 45 minutes cutting many of them out of the way but there are still plenty left. | | | | | Dog-Related Notes: | Madison had fun. Although Madison did all right on Arrow Slide, I wouldn't recommend it for dogs and won't bring her on it again. Too much loose scree. | | | | | Bugs: | | | | | | Lost and Found: | | | |

| | | | Comments: | Started on dry trail with no snow. About 1/2 mile in I ran into snow. Not worth putting any traction on. From there it was snow for 100 feet and then bare trail for a hundred feet etc... Gradually becoming more snow, but I didn't bother putting traction on. I decided to take Arrow Slide for the first time since it looked mostly clear of snow. Ended up with a 1/10 of a mile bushwhack at the top. I but my snowshoes on there and kept them on across the ridge over to South Hancock and down to the base of the loop. | | | | | Name: | Eric Rathbun | | | | | E-Mail: | elrathbun@yahoo.com | | | | | Date Submitted: | 2010-05-01 | | | | | Link: | https://ericexplores.com/2010/05-01/entry.shtml | | | | Disclaimer: Reports are not verified - conditions may vary.
