| Comments: |
Trail was clear to start, then a little soft/muddy. At 2900 feet the snow and ice started and went to the summit. Just after the start of the snow there is 350 or so feet of just solid ice flow across the trail. Slow going here. Micros were fine, but some might feel comfortable on crampons. After this the monorail gets pretty nice and stable. South peak spur was narrowest and least stable monorail, but still not bad. I only needed microspikes and was glad I left the snowshoes in the car. Snow on the carriage road is up to 3 feet deep, but very stable. A moose has post holed some, but didn't mess things up much.
Kestral data: 23 degrees with 2 degree windchill. Average wind of 39 mph with gusts up to 52 mph. |
