| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Some mud at the trailhead. |
|
| Surface Conditions: |
Dry Trail, Snow - Trace/Minimal Depth, Wet Trail, Snow - Packed Powder/Loose Granular, Snow - Wet/Sticky, Snow - Spring Snow, Snow/Ice - Small Patches |
|
| Recommended Equipment: |
Snowshoes, Light Traction |
|
| Water Crossing Notes: |
Israel River relatively mellow considering runoff. Rock hops probably available; with memories of an unplanned spill I had at this crossing a few years ago I choose to remove boots and walk across the 12-l6 inch flow. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
A few larger trees are down. |
|
| Dog-Related Notes: |
Grete enjoyed herself. There is a tough ledge particularly for larger breeds at the first castle; she needed assistance going up and encouragement coming down. |

| Comments: |
Comfortably cool with steady wind heading to the top. Snowline begins in earnest at the big boulder. Carried snowshoes but stuck with microspikes below treeline. Snow coverage above treeline vastly diminished over the last two weeks. Ice flows beginning to appear on steep sections below and above alpine zone- microspikes still adequate. Considering that trailhead was not available from December until just recently, I was surprised that trail had some if not a huge amount of activity. |
