Comments
Comments: Started at 12 pm and Barebooted from parking lot to Flume-Liberty trail junction. From here the trail showed signs of use within the past few days (postholes all the way to and up slide). The monorail was only about 1' thick and was still quite unstable which warranted use of snowshoes from junction up to the base of the slide. Snow did begin to harden up about a mile from slide which made the steeper sections much easier. Switched to crampons and axe to ascend the slide which was pock marked with postholes ranging from 2-4 'deep. As long as I followed in others steps or the very thin monorail I was ok. Some sections did have quite stable hard snow. Most of the exposed ice is still climbable with a few exposed bulges which were melting in the sun, and there is still plenty of ice still buried beneath the snow layer . I was able to get decent grip for crampons all the way up (stay away from the thin stuff on rock). Flume-Liberty and down was a super highway.
