Ammonoosuc Ravine Trail very firm in the a.m. We lost the trail on the way up and were ~100 yards too far north. Light traction was fine. Used crampons and took direct route to Mt. Monroe. Descended to the Gem Pool with crampons. Upper trail was softening in the sun, but we did not posthole. Even the last 1.3 mi. was fine with light traction, but soon snowshoes will be needed. Didn't posthole until the lawn in front of the cabins. |
