When Steve, Tim, and I started up on snowshoes at about 8 a.m., the temperatures were in the twenties and the trail conditions were excellent, with all trails broken out and hard packed with no post-holing. The path from trailhead to summit was like one continuous trail -- indeed, it was not evident to us when we moved from the bushwhack to Isolation to Davis. We had significant winds on the summit but outstanding views all around. With temperatures rising on the way down, the trail softened significantly at lower elevations with some post-holing. We saw probably a dozen or so other hikers, mostly in snowshoes but some choosing spikes. |
