Comments
Comments: It was a beautiful day to hike! The snow was packed down well and I had no issues with postholing on the ascent. I barebooted the first mile and wore spikes the rest of the day. At the upper junction with Champney Brook Trail, I encountered two men who had spent the night at the cabin and said they broke a trail that started with a W the night before and had sunk down to thigh level. I had the summit to myself and it was lovely. On the descent, the snow was much stickier, but I stayed in the middle of the trail and had no issues with postholing and was still able to run some stretches. One couple was ascending with snowshoes and may have been better off with them, but I was fortunate to have had an early day/be on the petite side and not needed them. All in all, an awesome day on the mountain!
