wow, did this turn out to be a great day! Lonesome Lake Trail hardpacked from overnight chill, spikes were perfect. Neat heading across the pond as the skies started to clear. Amazingly my first time On Fishing Jimmy, after 24 trips to Kinsmans...who knew. Badly postholed in places from previous melt day but very firm today and spikes were fine on the hardpacked snow and ice. Warm weather will change that however as this trail seemed fairly narrow as judged by the postholes we saw. 3 feet or so of snow up in here. Above Kinsman Pond snow depths increased to 5 feet or so as we were above the trees enjoying many open views. All ledges snowed in . Delighted to run into Jeff and Karine along the way and we caught up for about 15 minutes before moving on. A bit breezy on South Kinsman tho the views were great. Some southern facing spots got a little sticky in the sun on reclimb of North. Made good work coming down on the firm footbed. Once below Hi Cannon the trail turned to corn snow which made for some very fun ski conditions on the way out. Thanks Valerie for a fine day in the mountains |
