Comments
Comments: We were a bit too tired to write this up sooner, and I know someone has posted from a trip today (4/5)so I will only address the sections of trail that haven't been reported on recently. We hiked out to camp Penacook and that was in ok shape. It is pretty postholed and the snow was taking on its spring nature as the afternoon got later. Three Sisters trail was in good shape. The spring snow was in full swing here as well! Even with snowshoes we were sinking in. This part wasn't as postholed, I don't think many have been on it. Carter Ledge Trail was, to be honest, not the best choice and I wouldn't recommend it. There really isn't a trail to follow (you may be able to follow our snowshoe postholes, but it is far from fun). The tracks are all over the place and there weren't many blazes to follow. At times the track down was just plain hairy! We made it out with no major difficulties it just was very time consuming. We continuously sank in to our thighs causing a very tiring/bruising trek. By the time we hit Nickerson Ledge Trail we were mis-stepping left and right. The trail itself was not terrible, but postholed and mushy. The final 1.2 out on Piper was a nice change of pace as it is more packed down.
