Barebooted entire day as did all but one hiker seen. Would bring microspikes however if doing this hike again in next 7 days. Snow first encountered above falls increasing to 2-3 feet. All very hard packed with no postholing but looked like snowshoes might be helpful on Middle Sister Cutoff (as no recent tracks here). Poles helpful on way down but spikes would have one cruising if you don't like a little sliding. Only about 15 feet of ice on trail but this could easily change. All in all a fairly safe, easy hike compared to conditions you may find on the 4000's right now. No snow or ice near summit area. |
