Comments
Comments: It started of snowing steadily as we began our hike but ended with abundant sunshine! Hancock Notch and Cedar Brook Tr were well packed as was Hancock Loop Tr up to the split. There has been no recent traffic continuing on Hancock Notch or Cedar Brook Tr. I had planned to do the loop CCW from the start and was happy to see tracks only heading up the South link. Unfortunately I soon caught up to the two doing the trail breaking. Others behind me had planned to go CW but headed to South Hancock first instead. We all willingly joined forces, as 3 of us were solo, and broke out the loop. There was 8 to 12 inches of loose snow with deeper drifts. Probably impassable without snowshoes as even with them I ended up crotch deep in a spruce trap. The wind wasn't bad at all and the views were great. Near the bottom of the North link we met several others heading up so I imagine the loop is well packed now but still not firm. Everyone I saw today except a couple on a short walk less than a mile in were wearing snowshoes. Hooray! A big thanks to everyone that helped with the trail breaking today.
