from the trailhead to just below mt. surprise, not much snow to speak of and the trail was easy to follow. on mt surprise, easy to follow someone else's track up the trail, snow was deeper and ledges were tricky. about 3miles in (around 3000 ft), we lost the trail and ended up bushwhacking to the summit. Followed someone else's tracks back to where we started the whack and had a nice trip back. Ledge's were worse in the day with water runoff from the slushy snow. Anyone attempting this will find it a hair-pulling day for sure (several different bushwhacks that i could tell). I barebooted the whole trip with minimal postholes (you can see others though). Beautiful day otherwise.
