Comments
Comments: Nineteen Mile Brook Trail bare boot to junction with Carter Dome Trail - mostly bare ground with a small segments of hard packed snow.
Thereafter used MicroSpikes for improved traction on snow surface - snow generally hard packed.
Carter Lakes with some open water and slushy ice surface.
Carter-Moriah Trail out of the notch was a combination of steep slushy snow and dry rock steps. MicroSpikes worked well. Uphill from side path to viewpoint the Carter-Moriah Trail was all snow. The wet snow on the surface was underlain by a firm snow pack so boots with traction worked well.
Snow man and great views of the Presentials at the summit of Carter Dome.
Snow fields on the north slope of Carter Dome were firm so no snowshoes required today. Missed track to Mt Hight (didn't see sign - perhaps it was under snow). Snow pack about 4 feet on ridge. Followed Carter Dome trail downhill. Lots of leaners and blowdowns on Carter Dome Trail. Below Zeta Pass the snow softened on Carter Dome Trail. Snowshoes required to avoid postholing. Even snowshoes sunk in at times. Crossing the brooks down low on Carter Dome Trail can be accomplished with dry boots if care is taken.
Some nice cascades on Nineteen Mile Brook due to the snow melt.
Never noticed that the trail sign at the junction of Carter Dome and Carter-Moriah has mispelled Mt Hight as Mt Height.
