Great day on Saturday March 8 atop North and South Kinsman. I went up a back route I’d never been on before, Mt. Kinsman Trail from the west side of the mountain off of Rt. 116 in the town of Easton. There’s a parking area and a sign marking the trail head, easy to find.
The trail was very well marked and easy to follow with blue blazes all along the way, up to the intersection with the Kinsman Ridge tr. which is part of the Appalachian Trail. There you can head north to Cannon Mt. which is a little over 3 miles, or head south 0.4 miles to North Kinsman and continue south another 0.9 miles to South Kinsman. It was in the mid 20’s to low 30’s, with partial sunshine and little wind, maybe 5 to 10 mph.
The area is buried in snow this year. The trail was packed down and the footing was excellent, no snowshoes needed only some micro spikes. I would recommend this trail, with the round trip to both peaks at 10 miles. |
