Presi Day!! Bareboot or spike to Gem Pool . We put on snowshoes there and had them on back to the car for traction and televation. Trail packed out with some ice in places . Above treeline some significant drifting and things got looser. Gorgeous at the hut. Up and back across snowfields to Monroe where we lingered a bit enjoying far ranging views. Crawford Path had enough snow and drifted areas to make snowshoes the right choice. We passed several in crampons that were laboring pretty well. Temp of 5 and wind of 9 on the summit. Excellent!!! Tim and Tim took off with longer goals in mind though we all celebrated John and Pepper's SSW48 finish. Well Done!!! Gulfside was quite bony and the upper Jewell a mix of drifts and rocks with some ice thrown in.Took awhile to pick through that but once into the trees the snow depths increased quickly. Trail was a pockmarked disaster for most of the way with numerous knee twisting holes and rutts. Down lower things smoothed out some and we made better time. Glorious day out!! thanks everyone for a fine day!! |
