Great day out! Had no issues anywhere to speak of apart from some crazy wandering trails. We opted to stick to the hardest packed one that went straight while the majority of other wanderings went to the left and right. The only section we opted to reroute was at the arrow that tells you to go right and we stayed straight/left. The trail is a nice base unless you make a mistake and step off the monorail and then you could be up to your waist in areas! The ridge is not too drifted so with the bitter cold we opted for spikes the entire day because we just couldn't justify stopping to switch. Others may find snowshoes helpful on the ridge and if they have a televator the ascent would be significantly easier on the calves! We were completely clouded in on the summit (with the temperature around 0)but it began breaking up with peaks of sun as we got back to the ridge - go figure! We ended up butt sledding out for a while. This is a great trail for that! The trail received between 2-4" of light fluffy snow today and it was still flurrying when we left. I doubt it will make a huge difference on the trail, but just a heads up. It was a really nice lazy day hike for us! |
