Yesterday was supposed to be a group winter ascent of Mt. Moosiluake, but with forecasted wind chills around -27 there, a few of us opted for something less severe. After some deliberation and coordinating, we decided on Tecumseh.
We arrived at the ski area around 8:15 to already find it quite busy. The rest of our party arrived and we headed up the Mt. Tecumseh Trail, which was a well-packed sidewalk all the way up to the Sosman Trail loop junction. The Sosman beyond that was slightly less consolidated, but no big deal. The Mt. Tecumseh Trail beyond that looked to be posthole city. A couple of us donned snowshoes, but they were not really needed. The rest of us wore spikes / Hillsounds the entire way.
While I'm definitely not down with the illegal clearing that happened at the summit last year, a part of me has to admit that the improved view raises Tecumseh's appeal a bit. We stayed on a top for a short while for a snack, temps were cold but there was no wind. The cruise down was quick, and we were back to the parking lot in about an hour. |
