Trail Maintenance Notes

Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Marlie did great today despite the cold start. She even climbed the tower with out hesitation. The trail is in great shape for dogs right now. A leash is a good idea for Sawyer River Rd as it is shared with snowmobiles.

Comments
Comments: Thanks to those who broke this out over the last couple of weeks! The trail is a well packed side walk the whole way. We wore snowshoes up then down to the old Carrigain Notch Tr junction, then barebooted the rest of the way out. The other 5 hikers we met were barebooting but I feel snowshoes are the appropriate footwear at higher elevation to maintain the excellent track. We left the parking lot by following the herd path along the river but it began to peter out after about a mile. It was much easier to walk along the groomed snowmobile trail. We followed the old trail to bypass the upper reroute. It is WAY shorter. The clouds rolled in by the time we hit the summit but the wind was light and almost non existent along Signal Ridge. Thanks Matt for another great hike.
