a couple of people had recently hiked in from the cul-de-sac, but the snow was soft and unconsolidated. when we reached the junction with the stoneybrook trail there had been more traffic and trail was nicely packed. shortly before the carter moriah trail junction there started to be quite a bit of drifting which continued to the summit. drifts were not deep, not often more than 12" and usually less, but trail was totally blown over in spots even though it had been hiked yesterday. (thank you!) on our return the temps had warmed and snow was becoming soft and sticky, especially in the sun. the stoneybrook trail should be quite solid when cold temps return. nice to see a few other hikers. beautiful sunny hike, warm air, but quite windy. thanks to Joe for a great day. |
