Comments
Comments: The DOC attempt at separate trails for separate foot ware..skis, snowshoes, bare boots, has reached 2/3 of the population as there does exist a ski track and a snow shoe track from the gate to the lodge. Obviously the booters ( a party of 10 in crampons) took the path of least resistance and trashed the ski trail ignoring request on DOC sign there to Hike their own trail. Only a couple of inches of new snow today..more up high. I passed most folks on ascent and was first one to summit Lodge side. Down low the trail was fairly solid but once past 3500 or so things got quite a bit less consolidated. Several booters did turn back by that point. Deep snow once to the plateau as I got into the cloud. Cairn to cairn visibility with some amazing drifts. Biggest one of the day just before breaking above treeline into the pasture. Huge. I marked my spot and headed across the bony ridge there in basically cairn to cairn visibility tho it cleared off a bit later. Once in the lee of the cone there was a good size snowfield and was able to head right for the sign. Fully geared up today as the wind for sure had a bite. Saw someone on the summit just as I was coming up..around 1230 i think, but they were gone when I got there. That you Old Man??
Challenging day out for sure. On descent I saw several in skis still climbing, a couple of folks in snowshoes, and the herd of booters. Since they were probably the last ones down things might be choppy if it warms up as expected. Great day out
