Got a late start and took a gamble on Isolation. Rocky Branch was well packed up until the river crossing at Isolation Tr junction. No one had crossed the river recently and the snow was waist deep. I ventured up Isolation trail for about 1/4 mile but each step I sunk waist deep (and I'm 6'2"). Given the late start and that I would have had to break trail solo for the next 4 miles I decided to turn around. I wore Snowshoes the whole way (msr ascents) but would have needed tails ten feet long to continue. Very windy, but great hike with the sun out. |
