Got off to a late start and found the Ammo packed. We caught up to the group of 4 from Rhode Island above the Gem Pool who had done a great job of breaking the heavy deep snow. We broke to Lakes and wondered if we would have enough energy to summit. Thankfully above the hut the new snow was scoured and hard packed by the wind and was much easier than below the hut. We switched to crampons to descend to the hut before switching back to snowshoes. We were able to glissade in places below the hut. Trail is well packed now. Lucked out with the weather. Low winds, mild temps and decent visibility despite the approaching storm. Thanks to Bill Cronin for helping me complete my February Grid. |
