Beautiful blue-sky day, although a bit cold and windy (but not enough to necessitate goggles). Trail was well packed out with no post-holing or choppiness, but snow was still a bit unconsolidated in the top inch or two. Some exposed ice on the ledges to be careful of, but manageable with traction or bypass. We used snowshoes all the way up (for ease not necessity), and crampons and Kahtoola K-10s all the way down. Saw one other person who was using a combination of bare-boots or microspikes or butt sliding--and having no traction problems apparently, since he had snowshoe but never put them on. |
