Fine snowshoe track on all trails. Engine Hill BW mostly packed out, although soft in some areas. Approximately 3/4 of a mile in from the start of the BW (T Tree) the path splits. We stayed low (left) and encountered 2 very muddy (snowshoe sucking) sections. If you stay right (high road) you basically bypass all of that.
Summit spur doable with snowshoes, although once all the snow is scraped off the icy base will be exposed.
On our way out, after crossing the Rocky Branch, we chose to follow a track I'd seen on Wikiloc that jmmdds posted (thank you jmmdds). This cuts a straight line to the Birch Glades. Today this route saved us no time and added a good amount of work breaking trail through 2 plus feet of powder - not what these two old guys needed at this point of the day ;-).
Saw 5 others out. Nice to meet Mary's Girl on her quest. |
