Had hoped to finish my January Grid on Madison and Adams today but with winds touching the high 80s when we rolled into Appalachia, Bill, Steve, Mike and I decided against going to the hut as it seemed highly unlikely we could safely proceed much further. So Mike headed to Jackson and Bill, Steve & I did Garfield. Trail is in good shape. Some unconsolidated small drifts and up to 6 inches of powder after the height of land. We all used spikes to the Garfield Ridge intersection then Steve and I switched to snowshoes which I kept on back to the height of land. Trail is somewhat packed by now. Snowshoes made for easier walking higher up. Steve broke out the Garfield Ridge Trail heading toward Lafayette to help a friend doing a Pemi traverse tomorrow. Heading toward Galehead no recent activity. Disappointed not to wrap January -- but something to look forward to in 2015!! |
