Day started out -4 in the parking lots. 19 Mile Brook had a fair amount of ice in places but snowshoes handled fine. Once above Carter Dome Trail snow depths started to rise a bit tho the trail was well packed out. Wildcat Ridge Trail much less consolidated with some deep and unconsolidated snow headed up. The slide did not really have a trench but felt solid. Hidden ice higher up under loose snow. Tracks turned back at the viewpoint..2-4 inches of snow with deeper sections and some blown in places with drifts tho a base underneath. Very icy in places..especially around the split rock coming down from C. Some might want crampons there. More snow heading up to the tower where we were greeted with expansive views. Cold there but not too windy..this was a good choice for today. Chatted with very friendly ski patrol then headed down "closed" polecat trail for a fast descent. Thanks Valerie for a good day out |
