Comments
Comments: Real mixed bag of conditions. Started off in light snow with 2-6 inches along Rocky Branch to height of land. Headed across "engine hill" route.. as mentioned in previous report we got into some wet and muddy areas following occasional trench which was well blown in. This must have been fun without snowshoes. Eventually just dropped down to the river above 2ed crossing..follow this route with caution!!, tho it worked. Much firmer base..6-10 inches of snow along the Isolation Trail..some drifting and some seeps. Crossing was okay.wind really picked up with blowing snow as we approached Davis Path where we broke out the campsite bypass. Davis Path heavily drifted ..We literally broke trail in both directions as out tracks were gone in 15 minutes. Deep snow and a bit of a cornice coming to the summit up the spur. Didn't linger long in the wind . I think the front cleared while we were headed back on Davis Path. VERY windy for that period and we were happy to drop off the ridge. Nice fast descent..when we got back towards the "bushwhack" i elected to skip the mud and stuff and stayed on the trail right to the crossing where we took a series of herd paths I had used in the summer a couple of times that took us directly to the 1/4 mile sign above the campsites.there was some random flagging in places but really not needed. A route I would use again until things freeze up in the glades. thanks to Cynthia for a great day out..we worked for this one today. It was an awesome snowshoe day..
