| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Snowing in the morning and the parking area across the road from Pine Bend Brook trail-head was not plowed. The snowplows were running heavily in the afternoon and would expect it has been plowed by now. |
|
| Surface Conditions: |
Snow - Unpacked Powder, Snow - Drifts |
|
| Recommended Equipment: |
Snowshoes, Light Traction, Traction |
|
| Water Crossing Notes: |
Most crossings are bridged but a couple have open water. Easy rock-hops. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
There are at least half a dozen blowdowns along the trails. Have been there for a long time and are easy enough to deal with. Only one is a minor nuisance. |
|
| Dog-Related Notes: |
Good but tiring day for Cinnilla in more snow than we had expected. Wet paws unavoidable in the 2 open crossings but she did not seem to mind and with relatively mild temperatures it was not an issue.
The final relatively steep ascent to North Tripyramid has a couple of sections that she does not like too much and today was no exception. The loose powder-snow makes it difficult to jump and get traction. However, we have found ways to bypass these sections. |

| Comments: |
A dusting at lower elevation, 4-6" of fresh powder snow at higher elevations with drifts up to 18".
I had misjudged the overnight snowfall - expecting just 1-2" - and left the snowshoes in the car. This was okay for about 1/3 of the distance but after that they would have been really useful. |
