Comments
Comments: Led this hike with people from the Random Group of Hikers and the AMC. Had originally planned to do Moosilauke but the weather forecast did not make it seem like going above treeline, no matter how brief, was a good idea so switched to the Osceolas. It turned out to be a good a good choice - it was cold (0 in the lot and -5 at the summit of East Osceola) but we were protected from the wind most of the day. The sky was blue and the sun was out all day. It was a good day to be out on the trails.

We wore snowshoes from the parking lot, to the summits, and back to the lot. The only time we took them off was to descend the chimney bypass. There was 3"-5" of fresh powder on the trails and all of the thick nasty ice that we had encountered a month ago on this same route was covered.

The chimney was the place to meet people - we saw the guy who started off before us coming down and John & Pepper came up behind us there. We also crossed paths with a group of three not far from there as we were returning from Osceola. All five were in microspikes or hillsounds and they seemed to manage fine.
