Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Ice - Blue, Snow - Packed Powder/Loose Granular, Ice - Breakable Crust, Snow - Unpacked Powder, Snow/Ice - Frozen Granular, Snow - Drifts
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Snowshoes, Light Traction
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Few very small open streams down low, all the smaller bridged ones were solid. The Little River crossing seemed pretty solid, but we used the big log just to be safe.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Trails were in good shape - few step overs but nothing major. Good blazing on the North Twin spur made it easy to follow the trail with drifts and no other visible tracks to follow.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Hannah and Chloe had a good day - they weren't cold as long as we kept moving. No issues with the conditions or footing.

Comments
Comments: We did the loop counter-clockwise - started in micros, two of us switched to snowshoes shortly after North Twin summit and left them on until about a mile down Gale River, the other two stayed in micros the whole day. Some good 12-18" drifts on the ridge with smaller depths of unconsolidated powder coming up North Twin, down to the hut and up and down Galehead. A few large ice bulges at the bottom of the Twinway section and the Garfield Ridge section had very little snow on them and were tricky to navigate in snowshoes. Very chilly on the ridge with some gusty winds up high, bit breezy in the trees but not too bad, temps around -2 on South Twin and 5-10 the rest of the day. No views today but plenty of beautiful winter scenery to enjoy. Great day with human and dog friends, and a number of checkmarks for their lists, woo hoo!
