| Comments: |
Blue skies broke through intermittently in the morning, but gave way to cloud cover that lasted the remainder of the day. We summitted under snow flurries that continued through our descent. Cold and low visibility along with continuing snow convinced us to turn back without visiting Flume today. We encountered one group close to the summit -- had the rest of the trails to ourselves. On the descent, the freshly fallen snow had already covered the tracks we had left in the morning and there a half to an inch or so of fresh powder on the trail. The snow was really picking up as we left the Flume visitor center area and the driving through the notch was a little tricky. I used my regular Hillsounds the entire trip but there were a few spots above the spring where I really should have switched them out for the Hillsound pros. The snow is piling up on the ridge and if it continues, snow shoes will soon be in order. |
