JEM3 and I barebooted to the third crossing, then wore spikes to the false summit of N Twin, although snowshoes would have been easier. Above 3000' there is enough snow to warrant shoes.
From North to South Twin shoes worked well, and I kept mine on down to 3000' while descending on the N Twin trail, then switched to spikes again.
We encountered 3 heat-sensor cameras marked by skunk scent (!), and finally ran into the NH Fish & Game person who was installing them to study Lynx movements. He thought the trail would be disused this winter, which is why he installed the cameras right on the trail!
We disabused him of that, and he said he would move the cameras off-trail to avoid capturing photos of hikers and their dogs! |
