Today was definitely a Jefferson Day. Haven't been many of those recently .. so had to get out!! 130 mile visibility!! An inch to two inches of new snow lower down though with the warm temps it is turning to slush lower down. Further up there is more snow and what ice there was on Jewell is now well covered. Above the tent area snow gets deeper maybe 8 to 10 inches to tree line. We carried snowshoes and left them at treeline. Below treeline there was not enough snow to use them. Above tree line there was 8 to 10 inches of new snow. Again in most places there was not enough new snow to use snowshoes -- simply too boney. We broke all the way to Jefferson and the winds often around 40 were covering our tracks quickly. It was pretty rough going through the new snow and some deep drifts. I would suspect our tracks are mostly covered in because in many places we had to break trail returning. I broke both HillsHounds it was so boney. However what a great day to be out. Thanks to Cynthia, John, Mike and Lori and congrats to Lori for almost finishing her January Grid. Any one needing Adams and Madison in January please let me know!! |
