Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Gale River Road and Haystack Road closed. Parked at Beaver Brook X-C and used the trails to dodge some road walking. Out to Little River Road. A quick hitch back to the car and then the ladies and dogs were picked up.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Ice - Black, Ice - Blue, Ice - Breakable Crust, Snow/Ice - Frozen Granular
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Light Traction, Traction
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: The little river crossing is always doable for those that like to scoot across the log. Kali and I waded a little and managed to get across pretty well. The rest of the crossings were all open water but easily manageable to rock hop.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Mark removed a pine on the North Twin Trail. We moved things here and there from the trail all day but there were still a few step overs.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Kali and Isis both did a fine job today. The ice going up Gale River Trail and then the Evil Twin (South Twin) was not to be fooled with. This was a pretty serious hike for these girls today and they both met the task with grace. We will work on how the get along on the trail another day.
Bugs
Bugs:
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: someone lost a piece of traction on Gale River Trail that was not worth returning for. Parking lot traction at best. It is hanging on a tree 2-2.5 miles up.

Comments
Comments: It is my birthday and there is no better way to spend it than on a mountain or three with friends. We knew we would get Galehead and figured we would try South Twin, the the thought was, we worked that hard, we need to grab North Twin also. Heck we are here, let's go down North Twin Trail? So, we did. It was better than attempting to descend South Twin. That would have been a harrowing, knee wobbling experience. Lot's and lot's of ice today, some sticky and easily manageable, some angry hard ice that likes to trick you and land you on your fanny. Good group of positive people today made the work light. Thank you Mark and Rachel for a great birthday hike. And Rachel for the 4000'er IPA and chocolate cupcake. Hit the spot!
