| Dog-Related Notes: |
Because it was 4 below when we started I put the dogs canine coats on them. A good idea in this weather. I skipped lubbing their paws with the "sno-seal & vaseline" mix that I use because it was such a short hike. Should have done it however as they got a little cold on the summit cone. My bad. Just be aware that dogs loose a lot of heat through their paws and a coating of some type of wax/vaseline mix seems to work well. Better than booties in my opinion. |

My first time on this trail though it was my 7th Moosilauke grid hike. It is a steady ascent without any significant lengthy steep sections. A good winter option. There was just enough snow to justify snowshoes for the entire hike. Nice to finally see the ice covered and it made for a fast descent. It appears the conditions will change dramatically with the anticipated snowfall thursday and friday. Today was a nice quick hike to get home in time for celebrating another great year and looking forward to the next!
Happy New Year to all and a special thanks to those I had the pleasure of sharing a hike with this year. I look forward to seeing all of you in the coming year. Safe hiking!!!! (333/576).
