Was first on the trail this morning and broke trail on my own to just below the viewpoint (a few tenths of a mile before the summit). Snow cover was a few inches down below and perhaps a foot or so up top, with a few drifted sections. I know breaking trail isn't a big deal for some, but it is for me, especially solo...my left leg has circulation issues and it usually cramps up on me when I wear snowshoes. Today, there was no problem whatsoever and I was able to break trail without difficulty. I'm seriously thrilled about that. Plenty of other folks were coming up when I was going down, so the trail should be well packed out by is evening.
Ryan (Farmer) and Adam caught up with me near the viewpoint and took over trail breaking. They also figured out which way to go above treeline...the trail was obscured up there and it was difficult to figure out exactly where the trail was supposed to be. Thank, fellas, and it was a pleasure seeing you again.
Ran into my friend Mitch at the top - he and five or six others broke out Hi-Cannon Trail this morning.
The summit itself was inhospitable...couldn't make it all the way up the tower due to wind and frigid temps. Made do with stepping on the first stair.
