Hiking Trail Conditions Report
Peaks
Peaks Mt. Tecumseh, NH
Trails
Trails: Mt. Tecumseh Trail, Sosman Trail
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Sunday, December 22, 2013
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: The small number of skiers (although still quite a few considering they had to pay for the priviledge) meant I could park right across from the trailhead in the late am.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Ice - Blue, Snow/Ice - Frozen Granular, Slush
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Light Traction
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Rock steps
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Usual excellence. There are some large trees with ribbons marked Do Not Remove - research trees. The ribboners must think the trail maintainer is related to Paul Bunyan.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Wonderful conditions for Pepper. He got to use his Christmas gift early, a Cloud Chaser soft shell, and it was perfect. It kept his body dry from any rain/drizzle. The trail was mostly smooth, both soft yet solid enough for easy walking. Even the slushy areas weren't bad. Temps were mild. There were only two other hikers and no snowboarders.

Comments
Comments: ValC's assessment was still right on today; the trail is holding up remarkably well. Temps were over 40 on the summit, which was in the clouds. After some light rain to start we had unnoticeable drizzle thereafter, as radar had suggested. I hiked in bare hands, and much of the hike without any of the usual winter clothes. When the trail freezes up it should be a pretty good hike in spikes.
