| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Construction work is being conducted on the Rt 16 bridge over 19-Mile Brook. There is a very large construction trailer (think tracker trailer) parked in the 19MB trailhead parking lot. This is decreasing the capacity of the parking lot but was not an issue for us today. |

| Surface Conditions: |
Snow - Unpacked Powder, Snow - Drifts |
|
| Recommended Equipment: |
Snowshoes |
|
| Water Crossing Notes: |
All crossings were snowbridged and held for us in our snowshoes. It was evident that someone before us on 19-Mile Brook Trail had punched through a couple times without snowshoes. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
I think we only saw one or two step-overs all day, and they will be covered in snow very soon. |

Wore our snowshoes car-to-car. 19MB Trail still has a couple rocky spots, but overall, we were comfortable in them. Once we got to Carter Dome Trail junction, we found that no one had been up since the storm on Saturday night. We (and I use the term loosely) broke trail from there to the summit of Carter Dome. 8-12 inches of very loose powder between 19MB and Zeta Pass, then 12-16 inches of denser powder along the ridge, with some deeper drifts. Off trail, along the ridge, we saw 2-3 feet of snow. Amazing for this time of year. Please do not interpret "we broke out to Carter Dome" to imply that it is consolidated or firm enough to travel without snowshoes. There is a trench now, but it was only 10-15F today and that's probably the warmest it's been since it fell, so it is NOT consolidated. Great workout day! Thanks Tim! V-- |
